Bewitching Boulders at Hampi
The rocks- they tell many tales!
There are stories.... the hare which stood its ground here to confront some hounds around 750 years ago. And then there are stories ... this was where - it seems- a very valiant king from the north of India, helped provide justice to a deposed monkey king and thereby won his unstinted support for waging war aginst yet another accomplished but glad-eyed king who had kidnapped the northern king's beautiful wife and spirited her away to an island a long hop across the ocean...
You can believe what you want, but one thing that is truly unbelievable is the spectacular vistas that Hampi provides you- no matter which way you look! The rawness of nature in the spectacular Deccan rocks all around, the serene flow of the Tungabhadra as she meanders through the otherwise hot plains, the stunning verdant fields which underline how no pallette can match the stunning greens that nature manages so non-chalantly...And this is all just the nature God at work.
Add to this heady setting, the fact that this is also a place where man has done a phenomenal job of complementing nature with one of his most brilliant architectural creations- the capital city of the magnificent kingdom of Vijayanagara. Legend has it that Lord Vishnu- the creator of the the Universe- found this place so spectacular that he said this was too grand for him to live in and so he returned to his humble abode.
Come witness the results of this spectacular contest between God and man- which some would wager has ended in a tie!
Run with us and Bike with us here. We'll tell you all the stories (and we may make up a few of our own too!) and whether you choose to belive them or not, you'll be rewarded by just being here. Active is .. at Hampi.
Chalukyan Magnificence amid sunflower fields: Badami-Pattadakal-Aihole

An Art critic obviously overcome by the sheer magnificence of what he saw, wrote glowingly of Chalukyan art, '.. they cut rock like Titans, but finish like jewellers..'. And there are many jewels to be seen in these parts. The early experimentation in rock cut halls of Aihole leading to the even more stunning and refined efforts at Badami. The complete temple complex that sits majestically beside the gently flowing Malaprabha river at Pattadakal... And remember, all this work was done from as far back as 1500 years! We are talking about some serious history here. It is said that so much of the soul of the artists and artisans was put into these structures that their spirits still reside here to this day.
And did we mention that as we traverse these plains, we can run and bike through incredible rural India with lush fields of swaying golden yellow sunflowers and brilliant green paddy for company and god's pure air for comfort? Traverse back thorugh the mists of history to reach a destination that is incredibly well preserved. Cast your mind back a thousand five hundred years and forget the pressures of a mundane 'tomorrow' at work. Active is... at Badami.
The Organic Experience at Coorg: An exercise in serenity!
OK, pardon the pun. Beautiful trails wherever you look and the option to run down a traffic free road to a local river not too far away- and of course, run back up to the farm where fresh farm cooked food with local organic produce awaits you. (If you can't or do not want to run, you can comfortably walk the trails here.) And where the mountain air and the exercise ensure that you have the appetite to appreciate the chemical free flavors. .. Coorg does offer a lot to every traveler and this stay on an organic farm run by an incredibly hospitable and knowledgable couple enhances the experience considerably. You can get to interact with the couple and learn something about what you can do in your own little way to eschew chemicals and 'go green'. You can take home tips from these very hands-on farmers and also take home their organic produce. And we will sit around a bon-fire at night, sip some wine, talk shop and generally have a good time.
So, come along for this healthy holiday (all available literature says that wine is healthy!). Active is ... at Coorg.
